"On 3rd October 1970, I set out on an 80-day journey around the world to gather material for a book to celebrate the coming centenary two years later of Jules Verne's classic, 'Around the World in 80 Days'." When he returned John kissed the tarmac at Heathrow and vowed never to leave the country again.
